From June 2-6, Haversat & Ewing Galleries will be offering a wide selection of items including treasures from the estate of McCarl Roberts.
Roberts grew up in Baltimore and was close friends with magician and magic dealer Phil Thomas. Roberts attended countless performances of Blackstone Sr., Bill Neff, Kalanag and many others.
A lifelong collector, he was fascinated with all aspects of entertainment and this auction reflects those interests. When not serving as a practicing Methodist minister, Roberts performed his own magic shows, and even secretly worked midnight spook shows with Dantini the Magnificent. For many years he also served as the business manager for the Goebel Magical Review. Roberts passed away in March at the age of 88.
There are choice examples of ephemera, great platform and close-up magic, window cards, and a wonderful selection and magic biographies and historical monographs. Additional items, including pieces from magic dealers such as Tannen’s, Abbott, Dante Domenico, MAK, Grant, Contento, have also been consigned from other collections.
