What a great week of celebration so far! It’s always a thrill to recognize emerging artists in magic.
Today, we turn our focus on how we share secrets in magic by revealing the Allan Slaight Sharing Secrets Award, which comes with a prize of $10,000 and an engraved iPad to mark the occasion. This award acknowledges the many creative and innovative ways that individuals and organizations have developed to share magic with our community. And this year, we are delighted to announce that the award goes to TANNEN’S MAGIC CAMP!
In the past, this achievement has been awarded to Mike Caveney, Richard Kaufman (twice), John Lovick, the College of Magic in South Africa, Juan Tamariz and Rafael Benatar, David Sandy and Lance Rich, Kayla Drescher, Lawrence Hass and Denis Behr. It is a true joy to add Tannen’s Magic Camp to this list of magical creatives.
Tannen’s Magic Camp, which is just days away from gathering for its fifty-first summer, has a long and wonderful history of not just sharing secrets but also building community and life-long friendships. As former campers mature, many return as magic counsellors, imparting insight and wizardry wisdom. The history of the generosity from the magic community has become legendary, and it is one of the fundamental pillars to the camp’s success: Magicians giving back to magic. It’s a wonderful tradition that has been supported and upheld by Tannen’s Magic Shop proprietor—and former camper—Adam Blumenthal, and Tannen’s Magic Camp director, Terri Cook.
We are honoured to recognize Tannen’s Magic Camp and its magical team with this award and to recognize their exceptional contributions to building community and sharing secrets.
