Today is all about wonder. Sharing it, building it, encouraging it. The Allan Slaight Sharing Wonder Award celebrates and recognizes an outstanding performance by an exceptional artist, and comes with a prize of $15,000 and an engraved iPad, courtesy of the Slaight Family Foundation.
The list of past recipients truly demonstrates wonder at work: Penn & Teller, Darcy Oake, Derek DelGaudio, Michael Carbonaro, Steve Cohen, Derren Brown, Helder Guimarães, Dani DaOrtiz and Asi Wind. Each magician, in their own unique and creative way, has reimagined and redefined how audiences experience magic today.
We are thrilled to include an inspiring dreamer to this list of illustrious wonder workers, MARIO, THE MAKER MAGICIAN.
In his exciting and high-energy magic show of non-stop madness, Mario, The Maker Magician, won the hearts and minds of all those who attended his off-Broadway show in the fall of 2023 at the SoHo Playhouse. With his DIY inventions (that are really the co-stars of the magical mayhem), Mario floods the theatre with joy and laughter, while also filling our hearts with hope and inspiration. The powerful parting words from his show say it all: Do what you love. Use what you have. And, remember to have fun.
